One of my two favorite Miyazaki films..it was funny when Calcifer was being all cranky..and when Sophie was being sarcastic as an old woman..

I remember when the movie premiered at theaters in my country. I pestered my parents about wanting to go see it so much that my mom ended up taking me twice. Well, that, and she ended up enjoying it the first time she took me. I like how the curse helped Sophie to be more confident without her realizing it and how her relationship with Howl developed from being cute and funny into something more deep and passionate. It kind of reminds me of Beauty and the Beast, which is ironic since Howl turned into a bird beast in the movie. Some time later I was able to buy the book from which the movie was adapted. It's also very good but it's totally different from the movie. I guess Hayao Miyazaki had to cut out a lot of things in order for the movie to not be more than two hours long but at the same time he added some things and turned it into his own vision. I don't really have a favorite version in this case, I like both the movie and the book equally.
