To be honest, I hated the way YuGiOh ended, with Yugi beating Atem in the Ceremonial Duel and Atem departing for the afterlife. I understand it was meant to be the most fitting ending. But I think Atem was cheated because he never got to live a full life, having died at 16 or 17 years old in Ancient Egypt and then being sent to the afterlife after only two years with Yugi. He never got to see the great wide world around him except as a duelist fighting to save it. He never really had the chance to just laugh, play and enjoy life like the others. Yes, he had people waiting for him in the afterlife, but they were servant, not friends. Even Mahaad, Mana and Seth, as close to Atem as they were, were first and foremost servants who would bow down in awe to their god, rather than friends for him to just goof off with.
So what's everyone else's opinion? Should Atem have been permitted to stay in the present somehow or was it best for him to be sent to the afterlife?

*takes breath* I totally feel you on that..myself it was more of a bittersweet thing for me, mixed feelings if you will..on the one hand, he did deserve to rest but like you I feel it was sad the new friends didn't get to be friends with the real him for longer..so he wouldn't be forced to be in the puzzle, maybe have him go to the afterlife, observe the gang from there and Ra could be watching him, converse with him for a bit and offer him another chance at life, giving him his own body.

That's a fine idea. Too bad Takahashi probably won't go with it in a million years. I guess that's what fanfiction is for.

When I watched the ending I seriously couldn't stop crying for an hour because I thought Atem deserved to have his own body so he can stay with yugi and his friends. I know it had to end that way, but I felt really bad for Atem because he never got to that life to the fullest.

You know it..there are so many instances in fiction where sad endings could be written much better but the writers decide not to for whatever reason..and word on your last statement, so I will be taking advantage of it. ^^

Me too. We know Até stays/comes back and lives to be 100 in Domino City with Yugi and the others. He and Yugi spend years on the dueling circuits, locked in brutal combat (as it were). No one else can compete against them and all bow to the two who vie head to head for the title of Game King. That is how YuGiOh truly ends. :-D
