*sees if I could keep this short*
Okay it is a fact that there are different categories of fans when it comes to a work from Japan. You have people who are fans of the manga, some fans of the anime, and some fans who enjoy both versions. That's all fine and dandy. And a fan is a fan no matter which canon they love. But you know what gets me? When manga only fans come and say "you shouldn't base your fanwork on the anime because that version is all wrong", and anime fans saying the same thing. Even those who follow a hybrid canon feel the brunt of that self-righteous, know it all attitude and quite frankly it needs to stop. People could base their fanworks off of whichever continuity they want.
Another annoying thing is when the anime or manga only fans are so blinded by their love that they will not acknowledge when there's a goof-up but I mostly see it on the manga side, thankfully. Yes, anime has it's moments of goofups, but the manga isn't 100% perfect either..if you look hard at the version the author "intended" for their story to be, you will see mistakes made and manga fans would do well to remember that.
Now that's all I've gotta say.

I tend to favor the manga as it's the original story. I don't generally bash on an anime adaptation of it as long as it's true to the spirit of the source material, a notable exception being made for Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen, which bastardized the source material so badly, it was unrecognizable.
As for YuGiOh, I like both, though I do wish the DM anime would've covered the original seven volumes of the manga and include some other cool moments from the manga as well. But then there were things in the anime that I preferred over the manga, such as how the anime handled the incident where Yugi's Puzzle was taken and he had to get it back. The manga version of that was disturbing and contradicted an earlier canon where Yami Yugi immediately attacked a kid who tried to take the Puzzle from Yugi. Also, I thought the anime version of the Memory Arc was better as it had a deeper story and the continuity made more sense.
At any rate, for me, it depends on which anime and manga we're talking about. However, I do try to keep it civil.

Fair enough, but that's not what I was referring to. I know there are people who prefer the "original source" for certain fandoms and that's fine..what I am talking about is when they more or less insinuate that people are wrong if they follow the anime or have what's considered mixed continuity when it is perfectly okay to do so..or whenever they refuse to admit it when the manga facts sometimes contradict the other so it seems the mangaka had forgotten certain details and in their eyes the mangaka can do no wrong, yet they are quick to harp on faults in the anime..
And now that you have mentioned it for Yu-gi-oh in regards to the Memory Arc, there was a reason for that..it was said Takahashi was sick and medicated while working on that portion so he ended up drawing Zorc in a way he didn't intend to..and also that he is a terrible procrastinator so therefore there would be occasions he would end up turning in what he had not envisioned, what was not "final" if you will..

Of course, I agree 100%. People fight about silly things. Sometimes it seems like people argue just for the sake of doing so. The story is generally the same, with very minor differences from medium to medium and generally those differences aren't worth the flame wars that sometimes erupt in the fora. It makes you wonder how the story would've turned out had he not been sick. I read somewhere that he had a much longer arc planned, involving Seth leading an armed insurrection against Atem and starting a civil war. That would've been cool to read!
