I remember when I first saw the previews for this movie in '94 (I was almost done with 3rd grade then) I was thinking of how much I wanted to see it..and that summer I did see it..it was too sad when Mufasa was killed and Simba ended up leaving, having so much trouble facing it..and during the stampede scene I end up screaming in my head , "No Mufasa, don't go that long way!" but when I got it on VHS I would watch it over and over in spite of that. Also liked that Mufasa ended up living inside Simba so he was still around in a way. Timon and Pumbaa were funny..I like how they were when grown up Nala and Simba have their little "scuffle" ..Scar..while he was a believable villain when you think of it, for me he still falls under the category of the villains that do little for me..the jealous type..and the nerve of him blaming Simba for his own atrocities. It was funny, though, when he sang "Be Prepared" and when Zazu was singing to him and he kept being picky about it..as well as when he was about to eat the rat and Zazu came there saying "Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with your food"?
So while I usually hate tearjerkers when I feel the scene could have been written better and happier, I still enjoyed it...had some nice, catchy songs..my favorite is Can You Feel the Love Tonight..I like the movie version and Elton John's version.
The sequel, I liked seeing Simba as king but I feel it was all over the place in certain parts..not to mention Simba sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I did like the Kovu x Kiara thing though..as well as the songs "Upendi", "One of Us", "We Are One" and "Love Will Find a Way".
