Ok so I had started to read the first manga on a website awhile back (the one Season 0 was derived from)..I'm on chapter 50 but because of the slow internet connection *kicks it* the first page won't load properly..but from what I did read Atem was pretty harsh..yet it's a turn on in a weird kind of way. Longsuffering was obviously not in his vocabulary then but I refuse to call him evil. I mean it's not as if he were just stealing people's possessions or went around killing people for no good reason. He only unleashed his wrath on people who harassed Yugi and his friends..as well as tried to cheat in his games. while his methods were quite brutal, he did all of it for the sake of justice. The enemies deserve what he gave them if you ask me. Ruthless, yes, but evil, no. So yeah..I actually liked how relentless he was with the "badguys."

I also like early manga/Season 0 Atem and the way he delivered ironic punishments to those who did something bad to Yugi and the gang, like the TV director who got his vision all pixelated or Ushio being able to only see money when it was really trash. He was like a dark avenger when he first came out of the puzzle and I also feel attracted towards that phase of his character.

It's Time to Duel!(Create!)That surprised me a lot when I read the manga for the first time. Eventually, I started to like it and then saw the series and boy, that was awesome!

Atem is not evil tho some people think that he was and probably was not a good Pharaoh (blame that on Abridged) He was harsh yes but well-meaning when you consider the amount of bullying Yugi and his friends had to endure

Atem was a good Pharaoh. You remember, he didn't want innocent citizens hurt in his fight with Bakura, when Osiris and Diabund were fighting in the sky.
At any rate, I wouldn't call Atem evil, but he was definitely scary and brutal in the earliest chapters. It's to Yugi's credit that he "gentled" Atem as much as he did.
