"Yes. I would like to be your friend, if you'll let me. And if it evolves into something more...then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it." She answered, finishing her Baked Potato. "If I strike you as a gold-digger, I'm not. Not like my ex-boy-" She stopped herself in time, but she knew he heard her.

Atem looked relieved when she said what he was hoping to hear. "I feel the same way as well. I see a very beautiful friendship, but I will not object to anything beyond that either." A deep frown crossed his features at her last statement. 'What does she mean by that? Was she involved with someone who used her?' It bothered him very much, but he just shrugged it off, finishing off the remainder of his burger and once he did that, he drank the rest of his milkshake. Once again, he got a milkshake mustache that he quickly dabbed off with the napkin for fear of her making fun of him for being a slob.

Angela saw Atem's embarrassment and giggled. "If you're worried about me seeing you with milkshake mustache...don't be. I think it's cute, really I do." She put her cutlery on her plate and finished her drink. "And don't worry about being perfect...you're only human after all. Is there anything else you wanted to ask before we leave?"

Atem laid the fork on the plate as well..he was a little full. "Oh is that so?" he remarked when she said about how cute he would look. He chuckled at what a clown she could be at times. And he felt good knowing she didn't expect him to be perfect, but his pride did get in the way. When his chuckles died down he looked very thoughtful. What she had started to reveal was nagging him too much to forget just like that. He didn't want her to think for a minute he condoned such behavior."There is something..but I will not ask it..I will leave it up to you to confide in me..but I want to assure you that I do know your motives are pure and genuine..it did not take me long to realize that after I have met you. Now I do not know what happened to you in the past, and I will leave it up to you to reveal but I can assure you I would never treat you in such a way. I despise greed. "

Angela breathed a long sigh. "I despise it also. I'll tell you about myself...but I'd like to tell you when we're at the house. Too many ears here...and I hate eavesdroppers, if you get my meaning." She put her hands in her lap. "But I will tell you about my past...if you'll 'lend an ear', as they say."
She flagged down Jake for the bill.
"Will you wait until we get back to the house?"

Atem nodded. "I will. I understand your wishes and respect them as well. " He knew that he hadn't told her all about his past yet. He mainly kept it a dark secret because he feared he would lose her respect and love. He could bear to see her afraid of him, but now he knew he owed it to her, since she was trusting him enough to do the same for him. 'I will tell her..but not until I am positive she will stand by me. '

She gave him a grateful smile. "Thank you Atem. Once Angela paid the bill, she and Atem went to the car. They were unaware of being watched from the trees by the same woman in white. "So it begins." She whispered, while glaring at the two ravens perched on the restaurants roof. "It will happen whether you like it or not." ~*~ Angela felt relief when they pulled up to her house. Once inside, after putting a hyper Roxy outside to do her business, changing her clothes, and put the kettle on stove, did she sit in the kitchen with the pharaoh across from her. "Where should I begin?

Atem sat with his ankles crossed. He was willing to listen to the whole story, but he wasn't going to force her to reveal something sensitive she wasn't comfortable revealing. "I would like to know how you have become involved with this person, but you don't have to say if you don't want to. Just..wherever you most see fit to disclose first. "

Angela took a breath, "When I was...three years old I lost my mother and father. There was another car coming the wrong way, in my father's attempt to avoid it...their car slid on the icy road...and crashed into a tree. My Godpa took me in and raised me as his own. I don't really remember them and all I have left of both my parents is the necklace I'm wearing." She fingered the cross, the action seemed to calm her down. "After I turned 14, I had a terrible illness. I recovered as you can see but...but it robbed me of ever hoping for children of my own someday. During my time in high school, I met Joshua. He, at the time, was charming and seemed to really like me. I thought he truly cared for me...but then I found out he was only interested in gaining 'points'.
The 'points' were girls he'd lure in and then he'd dump them. He'd take a piece of jewelry, lip gloss, anything that belong to that girl as a trophy. I found out when he was bragging to his friends one night at dance my school was having. Joshua, the troll, didn't even see me behind him when he was telling about all the girls/points he scored and that after the current one he was seeing...I was to be next."
Angela released the breath she had been holding. Somehow telling Atem about this was easier than she thought, almost normal.
"I knew Joshua was trouble. I could...sense it. There was something off about him; like everything he touched became cold and tarnished. But I just didn't want to believe it. I mentioned that I'm in tuned to everything around me; and sometimes people, or souls, are harder to read." Her eyes locked with Atem's again. "But I could sense yours, that night. You didn't have that coldness he had...I can't explain it but...your soul is almost like mine. In strength and other things.
Anyway, I ran back to my house from the dance and, luckily, my Godpa was waiting up for me. I remember running to him and crying my heart out. But they weren't tears of sorrow...more of relief because I now knew and I wasn't going to be the next one that...that boggart would mark as just a score." She gave a small smile. "I never saw my Godpa so angry, it was like seeing Zeus in human form the way in was raving and swinging his crudgel cane around while he confronted Joshua's dad and mom.
I never saw Joshua after that because the year after we moved to Japan to open the clinic here. But sometimes I worry; I know how to defend myself so I won't become prey. And my abilities have gotten stronger. However, I don't know if Joshua wants to...well to put it simply...'find the one who got away'."
The young woman gripped the cross in her hand. "And there you have it. That's the dark secrets I have; never being able to have kids and a man who might wish revenge on me."
the kettle whistled, and she excused herself to take it off the stove. Roxy, sensing her mistress's distress, whined and sat by Angela's feet. The young woman hoped Atem wouldn't see the tears that were threatening to fall.

Atem just sat there, absorbing it all and let her go, thinking she could use some time alone. He was no stranger to hearing about people with twisted pasts..heck, even he had a twisted past in a certain right, back when he first popped out of the puzzle. However, Angela's story still floored him a great deal and what struck him most was in spite of everything that happened, she came across to him as someone who was stable and had a good head on her shoulders. Ever so often he met people who had traumatic pasts and be screwed up in the head. The fact that she remained strong made him respect her even more. She wasn't someone he had to dish his tough love on, like he had for his former enemies. And hearing about the ex-boyfriend first hand made him think how fortunate the scoundrel was to not be in his presence. He hadn't done any penalty games in ages but he would be tempted to make an exception...that was how atrocious he found the behavior to be. It also made him want to be the man she deserved even more. He made up his mind to tell her some of the details of his past he vowed never to reveal. 'She has trusted me enough to reveal her past. It is only right that I do the same.' He sat and waited for her to return, hoping she would be all right.

Angela got out the tea bag of Cherry Green Tea, and made her cup before putting the cookies from Chris on a plate. She carried them over to the table and sat back down with Roxy standing at attention/sitting beside her guest. Angela took a long sip of her tea, then asked, "Is there anything else you wanted to ask me?"

"No, not at the moment," answered Atem. "But I would like to say how sorry I am you had to suffer in such a way. No one deserves that. However, it impresses me that you have not let your past define who you are or taint the pureness of your heart. If you allow me, I would like to be the one to help you forget those misfortunes. " He paused, remembering his decision. "Truth be told, I haven't told you all about my past. There are certain things I have been afraid to tell you, for fear that you would look upon me with contempt. But I trust you, since you have trusted me and shown me you can be trusted."

"Thank you Atem, I'd like that very much." She told him. "And since we're 'clearing the cobwebs' as Godpa would say...can't stop now." She took a cookie, a peanut butter one this time, and bit half of it. "Go ahead."
She had to smile when Roxy gave a small 'woof', as if encouraging him.

Atem held back a chuckle before looking serious once more. "Well, what I have to reveal to you is not for the faint of heart. These events occurred when Yugi first solved the puzzle and I remembered very little about who I was. I just knew I wanted to protect Yugi and those dear to him at all costs. And I did that by unconventional means, using ironic justice. It was a common way to punish criminals during my days as pharaoh in Egypt. I was terribly harsh towards anyone who caused hurt and misery to Yugi and his friends. I challenged them to shadow games as a test to determine whether they are good or evil, and their ability to abide by the rules or not showed me their true nature. Sadly they were not able to follow the rules and would often find some way to cheat. Alas, my punishments dealt to them were quite brutal. It was Yugi who taught me to be merciful and a bit more forgiving." He felt relieved it wasn't difficult to speak about his past deeds as he thought, but then again, he noticed what an easy to talk to person Angela was."Hopefully this does not change your perception of me in any way, but if you do consider me cruel, I understand." He broke eye contact with her, afraid to see what her reaction would be.

Angela reached over and touched his hand. "I understand, Atem. You were locked away for so many years and dealed with these people the only way you knew how. You're not at fault...in truth you protected Yugi. You could've taken over his body used it for your own personal gain...but you didn't. And shows me that you're a man...not some goblin or creature... Yes, Yugi taught you mercy. But you allowed yourself to learn mercy. If you hadn't...I wouldn't be sitting here with you today." She gave his hand a squeeze. "And as I mentioned before: whether or an ancient being or not I'm happy to have met you."
Roxy padded over to him and put her head on his knee, as if to agree with Angela.
