Shaking away the doubtful feelings, Atem busied himself by continuing to read, but it still lingered in the back of his mind that something had to be done to prevent a genuine rift from forming. He sat upright with a jolt when the power went out.He laid down on his bed, closing his eyes and uttering a silent prayer, slowly dozing off.

Angela returned from checking the circuit breaker, and bringing in a few heaters. Dr. John was seated on the couch, with Roxy at his feet, as he watched the storm outside.
"I've not seen a storm like this since the blizzard of 'Forty One." He muttered. "Wind a-howlin' like a banshee, it is..."
"Agreed." Angela said. "I doubt we'll get much sleep." She then smirked at her guardian. "Then again...you can sleep through anything."
He chuckled, while lighting his pipe. "Not anything...but then again, a blizzard's not a cannon ball or a war head hitting the ground."
"True enough." She switched on the heater, before going to bring Atem a heater for his room.

Atem was sound asleep, snoring softly, not even stirring when some cold air brushed the tip of his nose. He slept none too heavy, though, because of the howling wind outside and also wanted to be sure he got up in time to fix something to eat for his dinner.

Angela quietly knocked on Atem's door, before switching the heater to her other hand. "Hopefully, I haven't disturbed his reading..."

Atem stirred and groaned in his sleep to hear the knocking. His eyes slowly fluttered open and he sleepily stumbled out of bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he wandered over to the door, opening it. "Angela?" he acknowledged, clearing the grogginess from his voice and trying hard not to appear too displeased about his rest being disturbed.

"I'm sorry if I disturbed you, beloved." Angela said, while giving a small smile. "But I wanted to give you the heater for your room. As the power's out...the temperature in the house will drop. I don't want you to freeze." In the back of her mind, she begged for him to speak about they should do about the gap that was forming. "I love him too much for this to happen...I'll do whatever I can to make amends. Mother...Father...Spirit of Atem's father...please help us both."

Atem smiled lazily. "Thank you..it is beginning to get a bit chilly. I was asleep, but no harm done." He accepted the heater and rested it on the ground next to the left side of the bed, turning it on to warm up the room.

Angela played with the hem of her shirt. "So...um...is the book good?" She asked, breaking the ice. "You seemed to be enjoying it when we were sitting on the couch..."

"Yes it is, for the most part, and I was" responded Atem. "If it's no problem, I would like to get a bit more sleep..I had not been prepared to awake when I did."

"Oh, of course." Angela said, her mind still worried. "Maybe later...we could...read together?" "Oh please let him agree..."

Atem scrunched up his brow in thought. "Perhaps..it depends on how I'm feeling then..may turn in early again after dinner," he said. He still didn't know what to do about the little problem and he didn't want there to be any awkward silences.

"Oh, ok." Angela said, trying to not sound disappointed. "I was thinking about making some ramen for dinner...as the powers out and the stove won't work. Is that alright?"

Atem ran a hand through his mussed hair before thinking a moment. "Yes, that is the best under the circumstances. I will he having the soup I chose."

"Alright. Do you want me to set it on the counter for you?" She asked. "If not it's fine...just thought I'd offer."

"That's kind of you, but it won't be necessary. I will take care of it once I awaken," responded Atem, going back over to his bed and hoping she would take it as a cue to let him get sleep before he became so wide awake he wouldn't feel like sleeping anymore.
